The Pianta Hot Spring, with a relaxed Chain Chomp in the middle
“It's quite mysterious, but this hot spring will relax your soul.”
Pianta, Super Mario Sunshine

The Pianta Hot Spring[1] is a relaxing sauna in Super Mario Sunshine, located on the northwest end of Pianta Village near two massive palm trees. The hot spring consists of a large platform made entirely of white stones, inside of which is a small circular spa-like basin built into the ground, and the upper half of a large Pianta statue similar in appearance to the Grand Pianta Statue. The water that the Pianta Hot Spring is filled with comes from the nose of the statue. The hot spring closes at night, at which time the entrance is closed off by a log fence and the water is drained out of it. At midday, the water is directed back to the hot spring and heated up[2]. At night, when it is empty, Mario can Ground Pound the hot spring's basin or the nose of the statue to release many coins. The hot spring plays a notable role in Episode 4 of Pianta Village, "Chain Chomp's Bath," where Mario must lure a raging, overheated Chain Chomp into the hot spring to cool it down and release a Shine Sprite.

Trivia

  • After the player has defeated Bowser and Bowser Jr. in Corona Mountain, Princess Peach and F.L.U.D.D. can be seen relaxing in the Pianta Hot Spring in one of the pictures shown during the credits of the game.
  • If the player collects 100 coins in Pianta Village, the hidden Shine Sprite that appears will always be positioned so that it is hovering over the right hand of the large Pianta statue in the Pianta Hot Spring.
