“This open air marketplace is the heart of Marrakech. The name translates to "Sinister Assembly of the Dead", because of an custom of displaying the severed heads of felons in the market. This is where the bulk of Moroccan daily life takes place; food is offered, scribes can be hired, everything from chocolate to silver is sold, and the snake charmer looks for handouts. The snake charmer keeps his cobras in a closed basket or wooden box, coaxing them out by playing traditional nomadic songs on a reed flute.”

Jemaa el-Fnaa (Arabic: ساحة جامع الفناء, Sāḥat Jāmiʾ al-Fanāʾ), written as the Jemaa-el-Fna Marketplace ingame, is the main square of Marrakech, Morocco. It is filled with stalls selling food, water, and orange juice; and entertainers such as storytellers and snake charmers. In the PC versions of Mario is Missing!, the Cobra of one such snake charmer is stolen by a Koopa, forcing the entire marketplace to shut down until Luigi returns it.
