Template:Species-infobox Gold Beanies are a golden-colored and rare type of Beanies that are found in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions. In each game, they are enemies that can be rarely encountered, yield lots of coins and experience points and even special items and/or rare equipment when defeated, and may flee from battle if not defeated quickly.
In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions and Mario and Luigi: Dream Team, Gold Beanies are depicted with black feet instead of gold; the stem on their head is also removed in the latter game.
Battle
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga / Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions
Gold Beanies only appear in Chucklehuck Woods and Oho Ocean Seabed during battles, where Pestnuts and Elite Pestnuts have a chance of revealing Gold Beanies if they take enough damage. They have the same attack patterns as normal Beanies, running in front of Mario or Luigi and charging into them, which can be dodged or countered by jumping; they may trip on their face before charging, which can be predicted by watching how close they are to the target. However, they have higher stats than normal Beanies, and are more likely to flee from battle than attack. Gold Beanies in the Oho Ocean Seabed merely float up to the surface once revealed, preventing them from being fought; however, this still counts as defeating them, with the usual rewards given.
Gold Beanies always drop a Spike Badge upon defeat in the original game, which allow Mario or Luigi to jump on spiked enemies when equipped. If the Game Boy Horror SP is used, it will yield a Chuckola Badge instead. In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, Gold Beanies have a higher chance to drop Super Syrups than the aforementioned badges.
In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, Gold Beanies reprise their previous roles. They also appear as enemies in Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser. Gold Beanies are melee troopers, and attack by ramming into the minions. Their Special Skill is Mega Tackle. Gold Beanies appear as enemy captains at the end of the levels Gold Beanie Appears, Gold Beanie Returns, Gold Beanie Spotted!, Gold Beanie Fights Back!, and Gold Beanie's Final Stand, rewarding a high amount of EXP upon defeat. They are weak against Prince Peasley.
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team
Gold Beanies appear as enemies in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, and are also called Golden Beanies in the British English version. After coming back from Dream's Deep through the Dreamy Pi'illo Castle entrance, the player will encounter a Gold Beanie escaping from Dreamy Broque Monsieur. He will explain that this Gold Beanie is a very rare and powerful enemy that only appears in dreams, and is said to grant legendary loot to whoever can defeat it. After this, a Gold Beanie may rarely be found in Dream areas.
Gold Beanies are one of the most powerful enemies the player can encounter, with the highest defense rating of any enemy in the game at 950, but can still run away from battle. Defeating one will result in a variety of loot, including a large amount coins and experience points, a DX Bean of a random type, and after defeating six of them, they may sometimes drop a rare piece of equipment. It has the most posible drops of any enemy in the game and the whole Mario & Luigi series, with three different pieces of gear and six different DX bean types among its possible drops; the gear items also drop as small Gifts, rather than the large Gifts used in most cases.
Gold Beanies have three attacks. First, it will try to keep ramming Mario; every time Mario stomps it, it becomes faster. Sometimes, a rock may appear, causing the Gold Beanie to trip. If Mario fails to jump on the Gold Beanie enough times within a short period of time, it will run back to its original position. In the second attack, the Gold Beanie will charge at Mario, who must counter with the hammer multiple times; if the Gold Beanie is glowing red, it will jump at Mario, possibly throwing off his timing. In the final attack, the Gold Beanie will run from the background, summoning many Beanies to attack Mario. It will hide behind one of the Beanies initially, and may sometimes switch between Beanies as the attack progresses; the one hiding it will be sparkling. If the player fails to avoid getting hit or to jump on the Gold Beanie, the attack will end, and Mario will take damage; however, if the player jumps on the Gold Beanie, all the Beanies will be shocked, and the Gold Beanie will start to sweat, making it fall.
The Gold Beanie can be knocked down by successfully countering its attacks, which prevents it from fleeing. Gold Beanies are also immune to fire attacks, so the Luiginary Flame attack will not do any damage to them.
