A Star Barrier[1] is an object appearing in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Star Barriers appear as blockades on the World Map, preventing Starship Mario from moving beyond them. The only way to get past them is to have the required number of Power Stars, which is different for every Star Barrier. Once the Power Star requirements are met, the Star Barrier starts to shine. When Starship Mario goes over it in this state, the Star Barrier permanently flattens to the same size as the other spots on the World Map, and the Star Barrier reveals all of the paths connected to it.
