- “Don't fall… down?”
- —Mailtoad, Super Mario Galaxy 2
Rightside Down Galaxy is a galaxy that appears in Super Mario Galaxy 2. The galaxy features gravity changes, represented by arrows in the background, much like the later Upside Dizzy Galaxy. Part of the galaxy may be played upside down, frontways (which is visually the same as a top-down view), and other directions. Enemies that appear in this galaxy include Goombas, Paragoombas, a Spiny Piranha Plant, Thwomps, and Swaphoppers. The music changes depending on the direction of gravity. The Fire Flower makes its first appearance in Super Mario Galaxy 2 in this galaxy.
Planets
NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all names are unofficial.
Rightside Down Planet (Starting Planet)
The outside of this planet features four structures shaped like wooden toys and a warp pipe leading inside the planet, which the player lands on as soon as they enter the galaxy. After entering the pipe, the player is warped to an area made up of wooden blocks and gravity fields that change depending on the player's actions or the place where they are standing. The Toad Brigade is found at the beginning of the planet. A Warp Pipe in the ceiling at the beginning of the level leads to a small area with a Fire Flower and crates. This planet is infested with Swaphoppers and Goombas. The first part of the planet consists of a linear road with a few levers that need to be hit in order to change gravity. As the level progresses, more dangerous enemies like Thwomps and Chomps appear and there are also platforms that take the player dangerously close to black holes. Some Banandelions positioned at various locations inside the planet aid the player in reaching different areas. Halfway through the planet, the player needs to burn the crates with the Fire Flower. The gravity changes after the player progresses past this point. At the end of this planet, the Power Star is behind more Thwomps. If the player is hacking, they can fly back to the starting planet, which isn't solid.
Crate Incineration Planet
This is a simple, metallic, half-sphere planet. A Gearmo inhabits this planet and asks the player to use the Fire Flower to burn all the crates in twenty seconds for a Power Star in Crate Burning, similar to the Bob-omb Blasting minigame in the first game. The fireball can go through several crates at once. After burning through all the boxes, Gearmo gives a Power Star to Mario, the Hidden Star of this galaxy.
Starshrooms
Two Starshrooms, a yellow and a red one can be seen around the Rightside Down Planet, though they can only be accessed via hacking. [1]

Missions
Level | Image | Summary |
---|---|---|
Breaking the Laws of Gravity | This mission's objective is to use the fluctuating gravity chambers to reach the Power Star. | |
The Great Crate Incinerator | This mission's objective is to use a Fire Flower to burn crates within a time limit. |
Green Stars
Green Star 1
The player redoes the Breaking the Laws of Gravity mission. Green Star 1 is located right after the third checkpoint and right before the green puzzle pieces area. Getting the star requires a well-timed jump and spin from the green block area or a precisely timed wall-jump from in between the two areas.

Green Star 2
The player will redo the Breaking the Laws of Gravity mission once more. Green Star 2 is found in the second Thwomp area (the one near the Power Star at the end). One must jump on top of the last Thwomp and then jump over to the Toad next to the Crystal of Star Bits. The star requires a really high jump to get, which the player can perform by executing a Side Somersault to the wall, Wall-Jump, and spin.

Trivia
- After the green pathway section, one can backflip onto the side of the whole planet and find a 1-Up Mushroom in each of the four corners. All four mushrooms appear to lack eyes.
- This is one of only two galaxies in World 1 without a Prankster Comet (besides the Green Comet), the other being Fluffy Bluff Galaxy.
