Bowser Jr., Super Mario Galaxy 2

Bowser Jr.'s Fiery Flotilla is a galaxy appearing in Super Mario Galaxy 2. It seems to be in orbit around the Earth. The main feature of this galaxy is the introduction of lava and other fiery hazards. The boss found here is Gobblegut.

Planets

Starting Planet

Mario on the Starting Path with the Castle Exterior in the distance.

Mario first lands on a long path with numerous steps which eventually leads to the Castle Exterior. Easily missed are three coins behind Mario. There are Goombeetles on the path, followed by a Fire Bar and another Goombeetle. A Thwomp above which is the Comet Medal hangs over the path ahead; after passing that the player reaches a morderately-sized platform which inhibits several statues of Bowser Jr, a Magikoopa and a Goombeetle. A switch to the left of the platform opens a huge door with Bowser Jr.'s symbol on it which leads to the Castle Exterior. (Note that the Castle Exterior is actually separate from the platform.)

Castle Exterior

The Castle Exterior is merely walls surrounding and enclosing the Lava Planet which is hanging in mid-air inside. The floor is covered in lava except for a short path which has two Dry Bones on it that leads to the Sling Star to the Lava Planet, and two small blocks which each have a coin on them. The Castle Exterior has no roof.

Lava Planet

Like the Castle Exterior, this planet is covered by lava on the planet's surface. It is a medium-sized planet with a lot of Fire Bars on a path to the final Launch Star to Gobblegut's Planet. However, because of its small size, it can easily be crossed with long jumps. There are a couple of Goombas on the path and a Magikoopa. There is also a Tip Network on the planet. At the end of of the path there is also a Life Mushroom in addition to the Launch Star.

Gobblegut's Planet

After using the Launch Star leading from the Lava Planet, the player ends up on this spherical, brown crater planet. Bowser Jr. appears in his robot cockpit before summoning Gobblegut to fight the player. The planet is made entirely of dirt and has many crater-like holes.

Green Stars

Green Star 1

Mario with the first Green Star in sight.

The player will redo the Gobblegut's Aching Belly mission. The Green Star is located on the Castle Exterior, on the north-west tower of the castle wall. To get on to the wall, the player must back-flip on top of the Thwomp, then long-jump or backwards somersault towards the wall, spin, wall-jump off the wall and spin on to the top of the castle. From this point the Star will be visible and the player can make their way to it by jumping on the ridges of the wall.

Green Star 2

Mario jumping to the second Green Star.

The player will redo the Gobblegut's Aching Belly mission. The second Green Star is located on the Lava Planet. To get it, the player will need to perform a long jump from where the Launch Star is. If done correctly, the player should reach the Star before they come in contact with the lava.

Trivia

  • This is the only boss galaxy where the Cosmic Spirit appears, and therefore the only galaxy in the game where Mario/Luigi can potentially get a Bronze Grand Star.
  • For unknown reasons, the Earth mysteriously vanishes from the galaxy's background when Mario/Luigi arrives at Gobblegut's planet.
