The Spin Jump is a Bros. Move usable in nearly every game in the Mario & Luigi series. In it, one of the Mario Brothers stands on top of the other, then both of them spin together in order to hover. In each game the Spin Jump appears in, it serves the same purpose; it is used to cross large gaps that the brothers cannot cross normally with a regular jump. Mario and Luigi can also Spin Jump into a whirlwind to thrust themselves in any direction.

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam discards this move for Paper Mario's airplane transformation, while Mario & Luigi: Brothership introduces a variant known as the UFO Spin, where Mario and Luigi merge into a flying saucer with their faces on it as they spin.

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga / Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and its 3DS remake, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, Spin Jump is one of the Bros. Actions. It is performed by having Mario as the rear brother using Start Button, switching to the move using the shoulder buttons (L Button or R Button), and pressing A Button. Mario will jump on Luigi's shoulders, and pressing A Button again will make Mario and Luigi spin through the air to clear large gaps. The bros can also spin jump into whirlwinds to launch themselves in the direction inputted much faster and farther than normal. They can also spin into updrafts on the Seabed to launch themselves upwards, and spin around the steam of a cauldron in Joke's End to create a whirlwind needed to progress. To cancel the move before executing or during the move, the player must press B Button. The move is taught by the Starshade Bros. in Stardust Fields along with the High Jump move for Luigi. The in-battle equivalent of this move is the Splash Bros. Bros. Attack.

In Hoohoo Mountain, Hoohooros's minigame requires the player to utilize the move to get ten Hoohoo Spirits in a set amount of time without touching the ground.

In the remake, because the player cannot switch between the bros manually using Start Button, the player must select the move using the Touch Screen or by using L Button and R Button. Just like in previous Mario & Luigi games since Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, the bros can also move around before executing the Spin Jump.

The Spin Jump makes a reappearance in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time; this time, Luigi jumps on Mario's shoulders. Also, unlike in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, the duo can move while stacked before actually beginning the move, and the move lasts a bit longer. The move is taught by the Toadsworths (who call the move Toadsworth Twist) after the first two Cobalt Star shards are stolen by Baby Bowser in the Vim Factory and before the player heads to Yoshi's Island.

Later on in the game, the Toadsworths teach the Baby Spin after the player clears the Gritzy Caves and before they head for Thwomp Volcano, which is executed by spin jumping into the babies to send them up to much higher ledges.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story / Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey

The Spin Jump returns in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and its 3DS remake, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey, being generally similar, if not nearly identical in function, to the move from Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. The only differences are that Mario once again jumps on Luigi's shoulders, and the brothers can Spin Jump into rising air that will send them up higher, similar to the ones in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. The player learns the technique in the Flab Zone of Bowser's body once they come across a whirlwind in a certain area. It can be used to activate objects like drills, the bones in the Joint Tower, as well as Kretins. The Spin Jump is also used in the Nose Deck to knock pollen into Bowser's nasal mounds to turn them pink and hit large mounds once they appear.

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team

The Spin Jump also returns in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, where it remains unchanged from its last appearance, with Mario on Luigi's shoulders. Whirlwinds do not appear. However, rising air continues to appear.

Big Massif and Lil' Massif teach the brothers this move during their first visit to Mount Pajamaja, which is required to gain access to and free the first imprisoned Mega Pi'illo on the mountain, Phil.

Later on Mount Pajamaja, two rooms require that the Mario Bros. Spin Jump into Big Massif and Lil' Massif. This allows the Hooskis to perform a more powerful variation that flies an indefinite distance in the direction they were pushed in. Their move can break icicles in the quartet's path.

There has to be enough space above Mario's head to get into position, otherwise Mario will jump but not leave space for Luigi to walk under Mario to pick him up. While spinning, Spin Jump treats scene transitions as walls, and therefore cannot pass through until after the move ends.

While Mario is standing on Luigi, wind is capable of pushing the Mario Brothers. If the Spin Jump is used while exposed to wind, the Spin Jump is forced to fly in the direction of the gust until the users collide with an object.

While Spin Jump cannot be used in the Dream World, the Hover Spin move of Mario and the Luiginoids is broadly similar as a floaty spinning jump that is affected by wind.
