First appearance Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (1996)
Latest appearance Super Mario RPG (Nintendo Switch) (2023)
Variant of K-9

Chows are a stronger variant of K-9s that appears in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and its remake in Land's End. They have no weaknesses, although they are the most basic enemies in Land's End. In the English SNES version, Chows claim to have already fought Mario in their thought, which suggests that they may be the same as K-9s Mario fought previously.

Similar to K-9, Chows can use Howl to inflict Fear. However, in place of Fangs, Chows use the more powerful Claw, and can additionally attack with Poison.

A Chow also appears as a friendly character in Monstro Town, where he will keep track on the greatest number of consecutive Super Jumps performed by Mario. The Chow awards the Attack Scarf and Super Suit if Mario has performed at least 30 and 100 consecutive jumps respectively.
