"Corona" means "crown" in Spanish and Latin, and the corona is also the extended outer atmosphere surrounding the sun and other stars. This relation is further emphasized by its attack animation in the remake. Flare, originally known as Corona, is an attack most often used by boss enemies in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and its Nintendo Switch remake. When used, the enemy summons a small sun, which attacks all party members with a fiery rotating beam, dealing significant damage. In the original game, the sun and beam have a simple yellow design, whereas in the remake, they are given a more realistic appearance.

An unused Chain Saw attack used the same animation as Corona.[1]

"Corona" means "crown" in Spanish and Latin, and the corona is also the extended outer atmosphere surrounding the sun and other stars. Its renaming to Flare is instead a reference to solar flares, and may also be a reference to the Final Fantasy attack of the same name. It is also possible the move got renamed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
