All-Terrain Vehicles, abbreviated as ATVs (known as Quad Bikes or just Quads in the British English version), are vehicles first appearing in Mario Kart 8, alongside karts and bikes.
The basic model of the ATV for all characters is the Standard ATV, which varies in color and paint design depending on the character, similar to the other Standard vehicles. The game considers all the ATV bodies "karts," as CPU players can be found using ATVs when the CPU vehicle body options are set to "Karts Only." As with karts, ATVs can perform the fire-hopping and demon-sliding techniques in Mario Kart 8.
When riding ATVs, Princess Peach, her metal form, Princess Daisy, Rosalina, Pauline, and Peachette wear their biker outfits. Characters riding ATVs share most animations with those in bikes yet have slightly different idling and drifting animations.
The Bone Rattler becomes available through purchase of the Animal Crossing × Mario Kart 8 DLC pack.
Two new ATV vehicles, Splat Buggy and Inkstriker, appear in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch. Both vehicles are based on Splatoon and appear alongside the new Inklings introduced in this game.
ATVs do not reappear in Mario Kart Tour; however, ATVs such as the Bowser Bruiser appear in Mario Kart World.[1] Unlike Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Peach, Daisy, Rosalina, and Pauline do not wear a jumpsuit when driving bikes by default; instead, they are costumes for them.
