Scales are platforms present in the Mario series. When a player lands on one platform, the parallel one raises up. If the player lingers too long on one platform, the entire scale with break apart.

History

Super Mario Bros.

Scales make their first appearance in Super Mario Bros., where they are the main gimmick of World 3-3.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Scales reappear in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, where they are the main gimmick of World 6-4. Unlike the scales in Super Mario Bros., enemies and other items affect the scales along with the player.

New Super Mario Bros. U

Scales appear in New Super Mario Bros. U, where they are the main gimmick of Scaling the Mountainside. Unlike the scales in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, the scales reappear in a short while after breaking.
