Croakaoke

Croakaokes[1] are creatures that appear in Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. They are squat, duck-like creatures that sport leaves on their heads. A Yoshi can jump on a Croakaoke, allowing it to reach higher places while also causing the Croakaoke itself to sing a musical note. This note is always one in the C scale, specific note being determined by color.
In certain cases within their home habitat, they are used to create specific songs by jumping on them in a set order. In these cases, the notes they sing are added to an on-screen staff, which is updated live as the player adds notes, and is reset when they play an incorrect one.
When fed a note fruit, the sound a Croakaoke makes changes into a softer one, and Yoshi is sent higher by jumping on them. When fed a hot pepper, they will turn red and begin to jump around their general area, allowing Yoshi to push them elsewhere as long as they are airborne. Heart turnips similarly cause them to jump around, but for a briefer period than hot peppers and with shorter jumps which stay closer to their original spot.
Some Croakaoke lack the leaf atop their head. Yoshi can catch a leaf as it falls from the trees above and place it on their head, completing certain discoveries but otherwise giving no notable mechanical difference.
Regular and larger sized Croakaokes themselves cannot be eaten, but the smaller Croakaokes can be eaten. They can also be defeated using a Detonut.
In an alternative version of their stage, some Croakaokes can be seen sick, with a dulled brown tone and a large drop of snot coming from their nose. These Croakaoke won't bounce Yoshi nearly as high, and will only let out a raspy sigh instead of their usual note. They can be revitalized to their colorful state by feeding them a note fruit or hot pepper.

Naming[edit]
"Croakaoke" is a portmanteau of "croak" and "karaoke".
When the name is suggested by Mr. E, he says the following:
