Universal City Studios LLC, doing business as Universal Pictures and also known as simply Universal and formerly Universal Studios Inc., is an American film distributor and publisher owned by NBCUniversal, which in turn is owned by Comcast.

In 1982, Universal Studios filed a lawsuit against Nintendo, claiming that both the titular character and scenario of Nintendo's game Donkey Kong infringed on Universal's rights to King Kong. However, the district court ruled in favor of Nintendo.

In 2021, Super Nintendo World was opened at Universal Studios Japan, followed by the opening of another in Universal Studios Hollywood in 2023 and Universal Epic Universe in 2025.

Universal is a producer and distributor of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a film released in 2023, as well as its 2026 follow-up The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Both films were co-produced by Universal's animation division Illumination.
