The Super Mario Theater[1] (branded initially as The Super Mario Bros. Movie Theater and later branded as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Theater) is a series of themed theaters intended to promote The Super Mario Bros. Movie and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie in Japan. Both theaters promoted their respective films in a similar manner.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie Theater[edit]

The Super Mario Bros. Movie Theater was initially opened in 2023. Initially, the theater had five locations on the film's opening day. A few months later, it was brought back in twelve locations. The seats in the theater had special covers featuring artwork of Toads, and actors in Mario and Luigi mascot costumes appeared to greet visitors. Special footage not shown in other theaters was also shown to attendees.[2] Additionally, a fan featuring artwork of Toads was given out to attendees.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Theater[edit]

The theater was reopened in 2026 for the release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The theater opened in a greater number of locations this time, as 30 locations were available. This time, the seat covers in the theater featured artwork of Lumas. Like the previous iteration of the theater, special footage not shown in other theaters was shown in the theater.[3] Additionally, a slap bracelet featuring artwork of items and objects appearing in the film (in addition to Lumas) was provided to attendees. Actors in Mario and Yoshi mascot costumes appeared at the theater to welcome viewers. Guidelines[4] were provided on the official The Super Mario Galaxy Movie website on how to interact with the actors.

If one uses Nintendo Today! within The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Theater, unique content will be shown upon checking in to the theater. If one holds up their phone with Nintendo Today! open while seated in the theater, "a universe will unfold" on their screen. The official website for the theater invites the viewer to attempt to locate Mario and other characters after doing so.[5]
