Also like their relatives, Bob-ulks can be instantly detonated with any fire, lightning, or explosive attack (except [[Clock Out]]), dealing 4 damage plus any accumulated boosts to Mario, his partner, and all other enemies. Not to be confused with Bulky Bob-omb.
Bob-ulk
Sprite of a Bob-ulk from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.
Sprite from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
First appearance Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (2004)
Latest appearance Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (Nintendo Switch) (2024)
Variant of Bulky Bob-omb

Bob-ulks are purple Bob-ombs that are the strongest and most armored variant of Bob-ombs. Their name is a word play on "bulk", meaning very large. Bob-ulks are solely found in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door's Pit of 100 Trials. Goombella says that they are the biggest Bob-ombs she has ever seen, despite their slightly weaker variant, Bulky Bob-omb, appearing slightly larger in the Tattle Log.

Just like their relatives, Bob-ulks always go through the following pattern of moves:

  1. Lights its fuse
  2. Increases defense by 3
  3. Increases attack by 3
  4. Charges attack by 9
  5. Explodes

Also like their relatives, Bob-ulks can be instantly detonated with any fire, lightning, or explosive attack (except Clock Out), dealing 4 damage plus any accumulated boosts to Mario, his partner, and all other enemies. The explosion creates a chain reaction with other Bob-ulks. Their explosions cannot be Guarded or Superguarded. In the Nintendo Switch remake, no Star Points will be gained if they are destroyed in this way.

Freezing them temporarily stops their attack progression, allowing previous buffs to wear out before new ones are added, and it will also put out their fuse, forcing them to waste a turn reigniting it. Stopping them in time also halts attack progression.

Or you could just set it off early with fire or explosions. Your call.
