Mailtoad, Super Mario Galaxy

Bomb Boos are the explosive, black-colored variety of the Boos that appear in Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, and Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey.

History

Bomb Boo Trading Card

In Super Mario Galaxy, Bomb Boos only appear in one galaxy: the Ghostly Galaxy; during the missions Beware of Bouldergeist and Bouldergeist's Daredevil Run. They are necessary to defeat Bouldergeist. Bomb Boos float lazily back and forth, exploding after some time, but they do move towards Mario or Luigi if they get close to them. If the player Spins near one, Mario or Luigi will grab its tongue, and it will get spun around until it hits something. If Mario or Luigi holds on to the Bomb Boo for too long, they will let go of it.

If the player holds it for too long, it will begin to flash red. If the player does not let go of it then, the Bomb Boo will explode, injuring the player (though by continuing to spin, the Bomb Boo can be swung wider and faster until it flies out of Mario's grip or hits something). Mario or Luigi can hold up to six Bomb Boos at once.

Super Mario Galaxy 2

In Super Mario Galaxy 2, Bouldergeist re-appears, along with four other Super Mario Galaxy bosses, in the Boss Blitz Galaxy. Because of Bouldergeist's re-appearance, Bomb Boos make a comeback so Mario can damage the boss in the same way as he did in the previous game.

Bomb Boos reappear in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions as both enemies and controllable units in the new Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser mode. Bomb Boos are flying troopers, and attack by running into enemies. Their special attack, Kaboom Blast, allows them to explode on an enemy. Bomb Boos are strong against Ice Snifits.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey

Bomb Boos also reappear in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey, where they are both enemies and allies in the Bowser Jr.'s Journey mode. They act the same as in Minion Quest.
