Michael Anthony Tavera is an American composer and film scorer who is known best for composing various soundtracks for animated television and films, including the sequel films in The Land Before Time series and the direct-to-video Tom and Jerry films.

Tavera composed the background music for the animated series The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and the second and third seasons of Captain N: The Game Master,[2] after working on the first season's orchestration and arrangements. Tavera's work on the former two shows consists of arrangements for many of the respective games' original soundtracks and motifs, while also incorporating more original music tracks, mainly within his work on Super Mario World. In addition, Tavera composed all of the featured songs that were performed in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, along with musicians Evan Roberts, Joellyn Cooperman, and Paige Ashley;[3] he would also compose the featured songs in Super Mario World, along with musician Monroe Michaels.[3] According to Tavera, Michaels is one of Andy Heyward's sons; Heyward put his child on the cue sheets as a composer.[4]
