Cynthia Ann Stephanie Lauper Thornton (born June 22, 1953) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and activist who was also a friend of Lou Albano's.

Cyndi Lauper's only appearance in the Super Mario franchise is in the live-action segment "Captain Lou Is Missing" of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! In the segment, Mario and Luigi, who are listening to Cyndi's very own song "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" on the radio at Mario Brothers Plumbing, receive a report that, according to Cyndi, Albano had gone missing.
Cyndi, who had been passing out fliers around Brooklyn about Albano's disappearance, soon arrives at Mario Brothers Plumbing to tell Mario and Luigi the bad news directly. Cyndi tells them that she is supposed to meet Albano for lunch, but she simply found in his place rubber bands for his beard and a note that read "Dear Cyndi: I'm sorry that I'm not here, but I've gone for good."
Cyndi then forms a worldwide search team with Mario, Luigi, and several other volunteers in addition to correspondents stationed around the world. After Cyndi reads a report from the search team members in Moscow, Luigi tells her that Moscow is the last possible place that Albano can be. Cyndi insists that they cannot give up hope, regardless of how serious the situation has become. One of the volunteers then presents Cyndi with a message from the President. Upon reading it aloud, Cyndi discovers that the President has called off Operation Lou Search, and decrees Albano missing forever.
After the search team disbands, Mario and Luigi try to cheer Cyndi up, but she is still beside herself. Cyndi says she is hungry and asks if any more pizza is available. Mario tells Cyndi that the volunteers had eaten the last of it, and he goes out to buy some more. While Mario is gone, Albano enters Mario Brothers Plumbing, wondering about what had happened while he was "missing." When Cyndi shows Albano his note, he realizes that he had torn it out wrong and states that the last part should have read "I've gone for good fried chicken. Back in an hour." Albano states that afterwards, he got tired of waiting for Cyndi at his house and followed her fliers to Mario Brothers Plumbing.
Cyndi then introduces Albano to Luigi, who is thrilled to meet him. Albano laments that he would be unable to meet his biggest fan, Mario, but tells Luigi to give him his regards. Cyndi then gives Luigi her thanks and asks him to say goodbye to Mario for her, as she and Albano exit to finally go on their picnic.
