The location infobox is used to display information on generic locations which do not fit in the criteria used for more specific infoboxes, such as Peach's Castle or the Mushroom Tennis Academy. If possible, always use a more specific infobox such as {{level infobox}} or {{course infobox}}.

| |title= | By default, this is not necessary, as it will automatically use the article title sans identifier. For special cases, it can be manually specified. |
| |image= | An image depicting the location - ideally, artwork or a screenshot from the most recently released game. |
| |first_appearance= | The debut appearance of the location and the date in parentheses. For locations which first appeared in mangas, the manga's chapter should be listed alongside the title (e.g. Super Mario Kodansha manga ("Star Road to Bowser's Castle")). If the exact chapter is unknown, the volume may be used instead.[Proposal 1] |
| |latest_appearance= | The latest appearance of the location and the date in parentheses. This does not include upcoming games: the game must have been released before the infobox can be updated.[Proposal 2] Like the first appearance, the chapter or volume should be listed alongside manga titles when applicable.[Proposal 1] |
| |greater_location= | The overall area where the location is found (e.g. Shy Guy's Toy Box is in Toad Town). |
| |capital= | The capital of the location (rarely applicable). |
| |ruler= | The character(s) who rule(s) or otherwise govern(s) the area (rarely applicable). |
| |owner= | Alternative parameter for "ruler" used for houses, businesses, and other forms of property where the term "ruler" is unfitting. |
| |inhabitants= | This specifically applies to species. There can be multiple types of inhabitants. |
| |iterations= | Use this to list specific iterations of the location, if they have their own page (e.g. Peach's Castle (Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga) and Peach's Castle (court)). |
| |iteration_of= | Use this on the pages of specific iterations to link back to the location they are based on (e.g. in the case of the previous example, Peach's Castle). |
