Cheep Cheep Lagoon (known as Cheep Cheep Cape in the British English version) is the third race course of the Mushroom Cup in Mario Kart 7. This course is the first in the game to include a race underwater.
Along with Rock Rock Mountain and DK Jungle, this course was playable in demo versions of Mario Kart 7.
Cheep Cheep Lagoon returns in Mario Kart Tour, debuting in the New York Tour alongside the rest of Mario Kart 7's Mushroom Cup.
Mario Kart 7
Course layout
The course takes place at a lagoon. The player will start at a tropical area, which leads to a bridge that has a Go! Dive! Go! sign. After this, the player falls into an underwater lagoon, in which the player can perform tricks on the seaweed and grab Item Boxes. They can get coins and Item Boxes from the Clampys that are underwater. After the main underwater area, the player goes through a cave, which has another body of water to dive through. Players also can fly over it by using a thin route that leads to a Glide Ramp, but they need to dodge stalactites if they do so. After this, there is a right turn back to the finish line.
Shortcuts
The player can drive on the flat rock on the right of the track as far as the Clampys zone. Also, with a speed-boosting item, racers can cut through the grass at the last turn.
Mario Kart Tour
Cheep Cheep Lagoon makes its classic course debut in Mario Kart Tour, starting with the New York Tour. The Miis near the start were removed, the banner was given a redesign, and the background of the "Go! Dive! Go!" sign is brown instead of blue. This course is a favorite of Baby Peach, Rosalina, Black Shy Guy, Birdo (Yellow), Blue Koopa (Freerunning), Birdo (Blue), Blue Shy Guy, Mario (Swimwear), Dixie Kong, and the Dolphin and Reindeer Mii Racing Suits. It is also a favorite of Daisy (Swimwear), Daisy (Sailor), and the Cheep Cheep Mii Racing Suit if they reach level 3, and Funky Kong and Mario (Happi) if they reach level 6. Beside Cheep Cheep Lagoon, the New York Tour introduced a reverse version and trick version of the course called Cheep Cheep Lagoon R and Cheep Cheep Lagoon T respectively, with the 2019 Holiday Tour subsequently adding a reverse/trick version, Cheep Cheep Lagoon R/T. In the reverse and trick variant, drivers will constantly switch between being underwater and being out of the water.
The course thumbnail for the R/T variant has an error in it. It features one Kanaami Road with a dash panel ramp going out of the water, but in-game, there are two Kanaami Roads with regular ramps.
For this course's tour appearances, see List of 3DS Cheep Cheep Lagoon tour appearances in Mario Kart Tour.
