The Shrubs are two talking movie star bushes appearing in the Super Mario Bros. comic "The Kingdom Enquirer." The Shrubs appear to be a joke on famous celebrities hiding in bushes to evade their fans, though they are also based on the animate bushes seen in Super Mario Bros. 3.
After Mario leaves Toad when he becomes annoyed by the latter wanting to talk about his secret mission, Toad asks him where he can get his story. The Shrubs then tell him that he can get his story from them, with the right bush adding that "everyone knows that." Toad guesses that they are movie stars, to which the left bush tells him to "leaf him alone," with the right bush explaining that he is just trying to "root out information." Toad encourages the left bush to tell him his story, who finally gives in to him.
