English[edit]

I was blinded by ambition
When I lost my inhibition
Now suddenly I'm wishin'
To be back where I belong
In the advertising rat race
At a crazy, frenzied pace
I was taking full advantage
And that's where I went wrong

Just remember who you are
If you are what you ain't and you're not where you're at
Then you know you've gone too far

I was steppin' on my friends
I would ridicule and offend
I didn't mean to condescend
Forgive my foolish pride
I couldn't see the jungle for the trees
The business brought me to my knees
You gotta learn how to
Cheat and scam and lie

Just remember who you are
If you are what you ain't and you're not where you're at
Then you know you've gone too far
Just remember who you are
It's never too late to set yourself straight
Self-respect will make you a star

Italian[edit]

Italian lyrics Translation

Ero accecata dalla grande ambizione
E poi ho perso la mia inibizione
Ora, all'improvviso

Calpestavo i miei amici senza pensare
Offendevo chi mi stava accanto senza volerlo fare
Ti costringono a imbrogliare, truffare e mentire

I was blinded by great ambition
And then I lost my inhibition
Now, suddenly
I want to go back to the place I belong
Without hesitation, in the crazy race to success and clamor
I've tried to seize every opportunity with enthusiasm
And it's here I've realized
That I was wrong

Never forget who you are and who you've been
If you pretend to be who you aren't, you won't go very far
And before you know it, you realize you've gone too far

I was stepping on my friends without thinking
I was offending who was near me without meaning to
I didn't want to change my nature
Forgive my foolish pride
I couldn't see the wood for the trees
Success blinded me
The business brought me to my knees
It forces you to cheat, scam, and lie

And it's here I've realized that I was wrong
Never forget who you are and who you've been
If you pretend to be who you aren't, you won't go very far
In life never forget who you are and who you've been, never forget it
It's never too late to start again
If you respect yourself, you'll shine and become a true star
