Dry Bones Burnout is the fourth and final course of the Leaf Cup in Mario Kart World, and is the second checkpoint of the Heart Rally. The course features a large skeletal structure, with racers driving around bridges and hopping over a lake of lava. There is also a graveyard nearby, giving the course a Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) theme. Racers are turned into Fish Bone, Dry Bones, or Pianta on this course via the Kamek item.

Geographically, the course is located next to Bowser's Castle in the volcanic region in the northwest of the game's map.

It is the first Mario Kart course to be named after Dry Bones in English, and is only the second course in the series to be surrounded by lava and not be a Bowser's Castle, after Grumble Volcano, not including revamped classic courses.

Course layout[edit]

At the beginning of the track, a metal grate leads drivers over a small lava pond, with a sharp right then a sharp left turn before leading into a gradual left turn along a rock wall. Suspended above the track is an almost identical optional path made of bones, which is only accessible by lap 2, similar to Ninja Hideaway. Along the rock wall in the left turn, a ramp made of wood emerges, leading onto the second optional path.

After the turn, both paths (now wooden suspension bridges) lead into a tunnel made of ribs. After a gradual U-turn followed by a straightaway, where both paths intertwine similar to Ice Ice Outpost, the main route (now the upper path) splits in two and leads along the sides of the tunnel, while the optional route (now the lower path) narrows and leads through the middle of the tunnel. Both paths meet at a wide bone road suspended in the air. After a right turn, drivers exit the tunnel via a Glide Ramp. The bottom of the tunnel is lava in the U-turn, but wooden in the straightaway and right turn. It too ends in a Glide Ramp.

After exiting the tunnel, drivers glide over a lava lake onto a giant Dry Bones head, where they drive either over its beak and through its eye sockets (with two hanging lanterns with blue fire representing irises), or through its open mouth. The Glide Ramp of the wooden path is too low for players to reach the beak, forcing them to drive through the mouth.

Drivers exit the head to an upwards slanted road turning to the left and then slightly right, before ending in another U-turn. The upper path (accessible through the beak and eyes) consists of two bone roads with slightly slanted outer walls. The lower path (accessible through the beak and through falling of the upper path) is a brick road leading through the middle of both bone paths.

After the U-turn, the split bone path ends, with drivers dropping onto the now wider brick road leading into a sharp right turn. After a sharp left turn, drivers reach the finish line. Along the walls of the sharp right turn, another bone path can be reached by performing a Wall Ride on the upper path in the U-turn. This new path leads to a Glide Ramp to the finish line, allowing the upper route at the beginning of the course to be accessed.

Routes[edit]

Certain routes leading to Dry Bones Burnout have a notably higher chance of spawning Bob-omb Cars.
