"Great Balls of Fire" is a song originally composed by Jerry Lee Lewis. Cover versions of the song play in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! and The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 in the episodes "The Fire of Hercufleas" and "Princess Toadstool for President", respectively. The covers play as King Koopa attempts to use the Great Balls of Fire in a battle with Hercufleas and the Mario Bros., and later in a 1-on-1 with Super Toad, and as Mario and Luigi, after entering the fire pit, evade enemies as they platform all the way to the exit. The covers have since been edited out in later airings of the shows, being replaced by an instrumental of "It's a Dog's Life" in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, and "Mega Move" in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, which originates from Captain N: The Game Master. The original version of the song is also included in the album Super Mario Bros.: Favorite Mushroom Party Hits!!!.

Lyrics[edit]

The Super Mario Bros. Super Show![edit]

Part 1

You shook my nerves and you rattled my brain
Too much-a love drives a man insane
You broke my will,
But what a thrill
Goodness gracious, great balls of fire!
I laughed at love, though I thought it was funny
You came along and moved me, honey
I change my mind
This love is fine
Goodness gracious, great balls of fire!
Kiss me, baby
Feels good!
Hold me, baby
I wants to love you like a lover should
You're fine
So kind
I'd like to tell this world that you're mine, mine, mine, mine!

Part 2

Goodness gracious, great balls of fire!
I laughed at love, though I thought it funny
You came along and moved me, honey
I change my mind
This love is fine
Goodness gracious, great balls of fire!
Kiss me, baby
Feels good
Hold me, baby
I wants to love you like a lover should
You're fine
So kind
I'd like to tell this world that you're mine, mine, mine, mine!
I shooked my nerves and I twiddled my thumbs
I'm real nervous, but it sure is fun
Come on, baby,
Drive me crazy
Good gracious, great balls of fire!

English[edit]

You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain
Your kind of love drives a man insane
Hey, you broke my will
But what a thrill!
Goodness gracious, great balls of fire!

I laughed at love, though I thought it was funny (Haha!)
You came along and you moved me honey
I changed my mind, love is fine
Goodness gracious, great balls of fire!

Kiss me, baby
Oohoohoohoohooh, ooh, it feels good
Hold me, baby (Yes!)
Girl, you let me love you like a lover should

Goodness gracious, great balls of fire!

Notes[edit]

The first version where Gordon Masten finishes the lyric
The second version where Gordon Masten is cutoff by Paulina Gillis
  • In "Princess Toadstool for President", there are two versions with a minor difference during the lyric "Girl, you let me love you like a lover should!". The version that plays may vary from the source:
    • In the first version, Gordon Masten finishes the lyric. After this, the song briefly continues the bridge section before abruptly cutting to the final lyric.
    • In the second version, Masten is instead cutoff by Paulina Gillis during the word "should", in which the song plays its' last eight notes.
