Mega Bob-ombs[1] are a large variation of Bob-ombs with a wider range of explosion.

History[edit]

The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3[edit]

A big Bob-omb is shown once in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 episode "Crimes R Us". When the Koopalings attempt to rob the Mushroom Kingdom Treasury, they are thwarted by Mario, Luigi, and Crime Wave Clyde. King Koopas pulls up two dollar sign bags into the Doom Ship above, expecting a billion gold coins, but the bags contain the Koopalings tied-up and a lit big Bob-omb. It explodes in a display of fireworks as the Doom Ship retreats.

Mario Strikers series[edit]

In Super Mario Strikers and Mario Strikers Charged, the Mega Bob-omb appears as an item. It is similar to the Bob-omb items, but instead of several Bob-ombs falling in a row, the Mega Bob-omb falls on one spot and explodes, hitting anyone nearby. However, it affects the user's teammates as well, so the item should be used with caution. Wario may also use this in one of his disappointment scenes in Mario Strikers Charged, in which he pulls out a Mega Bob-omb, which explodes on him.

Mario Sports Mix[edit]

Mega Bob-ombs also appear in Mario Sports Mix in the dodgeball game called Bob-omb Dodge, and are more dangerous than ordinary Bob-ombs. They have a wider blast range than the normal Bob-omb in this game, and cause twenty-five points of damage to the players.

Mario & Luigi series[edit]

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team[edit]

Mega Bob-ombs also appear in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team as minor obstacles. In the former game, the Elite Trio have an attack involving a Mega Bob-omb that Mario must run away from. They are also puzzle elements rolling down a set path in Neo Bowser Castle which Mario and Luigi must use to proceed further. Here, they have a 3D model with flat, textured-on feet. After Antasma is defeated, the Trio try to stall Mario and Luigi with Mega Bob-ombs before they reach Bowser. After he is defeated in his dreamy state, Mega Bob-ombs rain down as Mario and company try to flee the collapsing lair.

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam[edit]

They also appear in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam as obstacles in the Safe by a Sandslide mission as well as projectiles used by Bowser in the Bombs Away mission. They appear slightly smaller than in the previous game, lack feet, and are generically referred to as "bombs".

Super Mario series[edit]

Super Mario Maker / Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS[edit]

In Super Mario Maker and Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, the player can make a Bob-omb bigger with a Super Mushroom. Aside from size, there is no difference between big and regular Bob-ombs except for explosion radius. In addition, they can be given wings, stacked on other enemies, placed in Koopa Clown Cars, among other level elements.

Super Mario Maker 2[edit]

Mega Bob-ombs return in Super Mario Maker 2, having the same functions as in its predecessor. This time, they can be given parachutes.

Paper Mario: Color Splash[edit]

In Paper Mario: Color Splash, they act as explosive material to destroy the black paint mixing room of Black Bowser's Castle. This marks their Paper Mario debut.

Mario Tennis Aces[edit]

In Mario Tennis Aces, a large Bob-omb is used by the black Shy Guy boss in the final stage of Shy Guy Train Tussle. When the Shy Guy's health is fully depleted, it will throw a single large Bob-omb at the players. The Bob-omb must be rallied back and forth between each player and the Shy Guy until it explodes on the enemy and defeats it.
