Ride trucks[1] are controllable variants of cargo trucks found in Mario Kart World. They resemble the normal trucks from the game, with a few modifications: They have an extended engine compartment housing a large exposed Fire Flower-shaped engine, two significantly larger exhaust stacks connected to the engine, and their trailers have neon red signs with the words "Mario Kart" on them. Additionally, their second trailer always has its door open, showing a dark interior with glowing streaks of light and a ? Block symbol at the center.
By driving into the open trailer, players are able to take temporary control of the truck, which grants them a larger size, increased speed, and invulnerability to most obstacles. Players may drive the ride truck for a total of 20 seconds, after which they get launched forward as the truck disappears. The truck's horn will sound three times consecutively when it is about to disappear, with the last horn releasing them. A ride truck can also be destroyed if it falls in water, is sucked in by a ride UFO, or collides with another player controlling a vehicle. While the truck is immune to most obstacles, its second trailer may get knocked off while driving it. This has no adverse effects to the truck. Ride trucks are commonly found in any mode of the game driving alongside normal traffic on various roads in the game. Ride trucks cannot use Dash Panels or Glide Ramps.
While driving a ride truck, Photo Mode cannot be accessed. The player also cannot rewind to a time prior to exiting the vehicle.
