Super Mario Great, also called Great, is both a character and a transformation that appears in the Super Mario Bros. 4: Super Mario World 7 of the Super Mario Kodansha manga that passes his powers to Mario through the Henshin Capsule. It is a giant alien identical to Mario, except for being (mostly) depicted with a "serious anime" art style, similar to that of Fist of the North Star, and the "G" on his cap. He is heavily inspired by Ultraman Great from Ultraman: Towards the Future, another alien giant that possesses the protagonist to stop the kaiju menace.

While sitting in his mayoral office in Mario City, Mario is crushed by a statue of Super Mario Great, thrown by Super Mecha Koopa. While Mario is a ghost, the statue asks for forgiveness and resurrects him by infusing his spirit in him (causing the statue to disappear). He gives Mario the Henshin Capsule, telling him to use it in case of emergency. In the manga, while facing against Bowser's kaiju, Mario uses the capsule to become Super Mario Great and, after a while, the "G" on his cap starts blinking and Mario returns to normal. Despite the striking resemblance, the citizens do not put together that Mario and Super Mario Great are the same person (which is technically correct, as it is just Mario using Great's powers); not even the Great Bōeigun squad members are aware of this until the end, when Wendy finally sees Super Mario Great turning into Mario.

In each chapter, Mario gains a different form of Great: the Super form with the Dynamite Kick as its special attack in the first chapter, the Fire form with its Fire Mario Beam in the second, and the Caped form with the Spin Attack and Manteau Cutter in the third and fourth. In the third chapter, Luigi accidentally uses the capsule and turns into the Super form of Great (first naively thinking he was always Great, then attributing the events to a dream) but he is defeated by the Chitei Kaijū Indy's speed. The Ninji controlling the monster noticed how Great's cap blinks after three minutes, suggesting that he cannot be active any longer. Luigi then finds himself trapped in a crystal, but unbeknownst to everyone, he returns to his original form soon after, just in time for Mario to get him out and take the capsule back.

In the last chapter, while fighting Koopa Seven, Super Mario Great is separated by Mario after being hit by the Kameriumu Kōsen, which almost kills Great in the process, forcing him to separate from Mario to save him. In return, Mario saves him by giving him the Muteki Star Bracelet, which turns him invincible, with the abilities Muteki Barrier, Dynamic Punch, and the finishing Muteki Star Attack. With Bowser defeated, Great returns to his home planet as Mario and his friends cheer for him.
