"Aquatic Race"[2] is a musical theme composed by Mahito Yokota for Super Mario Galaxy, where it plays during ray surfing in Loopdeeloop Galaxy and Loopdeeswoop Galaxy, racing the penguins in Sea Slide Galaxy, and during blowing up trash in Battlerock Galaxy and Dreadnought Galaxy. Before the theme plays, a unique jingle plays, followed by an on-screen countdown. The theme then starts as the "Go!" text appears. At the end of the races in Loopdeloop Galaxy, Loopdeswoop Galaxy and Sea Slide Galaxy, two different jingles play if the player either wins or loses, with the "Goal!"/"You lose" text appearing onscreen.

History[edit]

Super Mario Galaxy[edit]

Super Mario Galaxy marks the first appearance of "Aquatic Race". It is also included in the official Super Mario Galaxy Original Soundtrack album.

A 3/4 arrangement of the theme, titled "Boo Race" in the official Super Mario Galaxy Original Soundtrack and the Nintendo Music app, plays during races with Spooky in Ghostly Galaxy and Boo's Boneyard Galaxy. Additional drum beats are added to the arrangement when the Spooky Speedster is close to Mario/Luigi.

"Aquatic Race", "Boo Race" and its remix, return in the Nintendo Switch ports, Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, for the same purposes. In the case of "Boo Race" for its inclusion in the Nintendo Music app and the Super Mario Galaxy Original Soundtrack, both the original theme and its remix are played in the sequence on the same track.

Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]

In Super Mario Galaxy 2, an arrangement of "Aquatic Race" that is raised in semitone plays in all of The Chimp challenges, and in the Romp comet missions, like Spiny Rainbow Romp. The jingles that played at the start and end of the races in Super Mario Galaxy also return here and also play at the start and end of Fluzzard gliding in Wild Glide Galaxy and Fleet Glide Galaxy, with both galaxies using their own themes.
