"King Bowser"[1][2] is a musical theme composed by Mahito Yokota for Super Mario Galaxy, where it plays during boss battles against Bowser in the Bowser's Star Reactor mission "The Fiery Stronghold" and the Bowser's Dark Matter Plant mission "Darkness on the Horizon", as well as during the first two phases of the final boss battle against Bowser in the Bowser's Galaxy Reactor mission "The Fate of the Universe". It features brass and string instrumentation.

“This is the male choir full-chorus version that you don't get to hear much in-game. We used two orchestras to strive for the interactive sound only possible in video games.”
Liner notes in the Super Mario Galaxy Original Soundtrack

Super Mario Galaxy marks the first appearance of "King Bowser" and it returns for the same purpose in the Nintendo Switch ports, Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2. When Bowser becomes vulnerable and as he runs with a burnt tail or he spins on his back during his boss battles, a male choir, staccato trumpets, and snare drum are adaptively added to the theme. While spinning on his back, a synthesized woodwind arpeggio is also added. When he is hit again and flung into the air, a faint synthesized harp arpeggio is briefly added, reminiscent of that of using a Launch Star, before all of the additional channels drop out.

The theme is also included in the official Super Mario Galaxy Original Soundtrack album and in the Nintendo Music app, where the regular and choir versions of the theme are played in sequence on the same track.

In Super Mario Galaxy 2, "King Bowser's Might" features an intro that resembles the intro of "King Bowser", but the two compositions are otherwise unrelated.

In The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a brief arrangement of the intro of "King Bowser" is incorporated in the track "Welcome to the Mushroom Kingdom", which plays during the scene of Mario attempting to follow Toad through a maze of Warp Pipes. It was arranged by Brian Tyler, and it is also included in The Super Mario Bros. Movie (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) album.
