- “This piece couldn't be done without an orchestra. As this music caps off Mario's adventures in space, I dedicated a great deal of time to the composition and performance of this song.”
- —Liner notes in the Super Mario Galaxy Original Soundtrack
"Super Mario Galaxy",[1][2] also known as "Main Theme",[3] is a musical theme composed by Mahito Yokota for the game of the same name, where it plays during its staff credits. It acts as a triumphant reprise for "Overture" and quotes "Gusty Garden Galaxy" from the same game.
History[edit]
Super Mario Galaxy[edit]
Super Mario Galaxy marks the first appearance of "Super Mario Galaxy", and it returns in the Nintendo Switch ports, Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, for the same purpose. It is also included in the official albums Super Mario Galaxy Original Soundtrack, Super Mario History 1985-2010 and Nintendo Sound Selection: Endings & Credits.
Super Smash Bros. series[edit]
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U[edit]
In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, "Super Mario Galaxy" can play in the Mario Galaxy stage. Compared to the original version of the theme, which is approximately four minutes long, the track has been shortened to 2 minutes and 46 seconds. As the theme was not composed to loop for its Super Mario Galaxy appearance, the track instead restarts from the beginning upon finishing.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the shortened version of "Super Mario Galaxy" from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U can play in any Super Smash Bros.-series and Super Mario-series stage.
