"Overture" (Super Mario Galaxy)
“This song was composed with the image of a fortress floating through space in mind. The use of a large orchestra for this piece really expresses Mario's excitement as he sneaks in alone.”
Liner notes in the Super Mario Galaxy Original Soundtrack

"Battlerock Galaxy"[1][2] is a musical theme composed by Mahito Yokota for Super Mario Galaxy, where it plays in the Battlerock Galaxy and the Dreadnought Galaxy. This theme quotes "Overture" from the same game in its second half.

History[edit]

Super Mario Galaxy[edit]

Super Mario Galaxy marks the first appearance of "Battlerock Galaxy".

An ambient arrangement of "Battlerock Galaxy" (titled "Space Fantasy" in the Nintendo Music app and the official Super Mario Galaxy Original Soundtrack album) first plays in Good Egg Galaxy, on the Flipswitch planet in "Dino Piranha" and in the last two sections of "A Snack of Cosmic Proportions". It later plays in Matter Splatter Galaxy, Bubble Breeze Galaxy, Bubble Blast Galaxy, Sling Pod Galaxy, Boo's Boneyard Galaxy, "Matter Splatter Mansion" in Ghostly Galaxy, "Yoshi's Unexpected Appearance" in Space Junk Galaxy, "Gusty Garden's Gravity Scramble" in Gusty Garden Galaxy, and "Bubble Blastoff" in Deep Dark Galaxy. The music alternates between it and the original theme during certain sections of Battlerock Galaxy and Dreadnought Galaxy.

Both "Battlerock Galaxy" and "Space Fantasy" return in the Nintendo Switch ports, Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, for the same purposes.
