The Topman Tribe is a faction of robots that first appear in Super Mario Galaxy. Topmen resemble tops and are always spinning, trying to attack Mario (or Luigi). They appear in the Battlerock Galaxy, Buoy Base Galaxy, and Dreadnought Galaxy, all of which are themed as heavily militarized areas. They travel throughout space in top-shaped flying saucers and are led by Topmaniac. They are very weak to electricity, as spinning them into electric currents instantly defeats them (with the exception of Topmaniac).
There are three types of Topmen. Topminis are a small yellow variety of Topmen that reflect the player off if touched. They can be defeated via a spin. An additional variety, known as Spring Topmen, is bigger than the Topminis. The player can jump off Spring Topmen like a spring. The third variety is called the Spiky Topman, which is the same size as the Spring Topman. The player cannot jump on Spiky Topmen due to the large spikes on their heads, which damage the player if touched. Spring Vaults and Sentry Garages also seem to be affiliated, as they are found in the same areas and resemble Spring Topmen, with the latter also spawning Topminis.
All three types of Topmen appear in the Space Storm Galaxy of Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Subsequent names are listed in chronological order for each language, from oldest to newest, and have the media with which they are associated in the "notes" column. Names exclusive to localizations of the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia are not prioritized due to concerns about circular reporting, and are only listed first for their respective languages if they are the only ones available.
