"Purple Comet"[1][2] is a musical theme composed by Mahito Yokota for Super Mario Galaxy. This theme incorporates an arrangement of "Gusty Garden Galaxy" from the same game at the end. It plays in all timed Purple Comet missions:

Super Mario Galaxy[edit]

Super Mario Galaxy marks the first appearance of "Purple Comet," and it returns for the same purpose in the Nintendo Switch ports Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2. It is also included in the official Super Mario Galaxy Original Soundtrack album.

Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]

In Super Mario Galaxy 2 and the Nintendo Switch port Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, the original version of "Purple Comet" plays in "Purple Coin Flip 'n' Sprint," "Purple Coin Shadow Vault," "The Adventure of the Purple Coins," and "Luigi's Purple Coin Chaos."

In the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, an arrangement of "Purple Comet" can be chosen as the background music for events. It is titled "PURPLE COMET (Super Mario Galaxy)" in the game's sound test.
