"Toad's Turnpike,"[1][2] also known as simply "Highway,"[3] is a musical theme composed by Kenta Nagata for Mario Kart 64, where it plays in the race course of the same name.

Mario Kart 64 marks the first appearance of "Toad's Turnpike." It is also included in the official soundtrack albums Mario Kart 64 Race Tracks, Mario Kart 64 Original Soundtrack, and Mario Kart 64: Greatest Hits Soundtrack.

In Mario Kart 7, an arrangement of "Toad's Turnpike" is incorporated in the theme that plays in Neo Bowser City, likewise titled "Neo Bowser City" in the Nintendo Music app.

Mario Kart 8[edit]

“The arrangement on this track aims to give a sense of travelling at speed. It's a really fun course to watch, what with all the billboards and signs that pop up. Just be sure to keep your eyes on the road, and don't cause any accidents.”

In Mario Kart 8 and the Nintendo Switch port, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, an arrangement of "Toad's Turnpike" plays in N64 Toad's Turnpike, likewise titled "N64 Toad's Turnpike" in the Nintendo Music app and the official Mario Kart 8 Original Soundtrack album. A looping drum set beat is added to the instrumentation whenever the player is driving at top speed while in first place.

In Mario Kart World, an arrangement of "Toad's Turnpike" can play in Free Roam and during routes in VS Race. This arrangement plays the main melody mostly on an electric piano and has a section that references "the lick".

The Mario Kart 64 on Club Circuit album features an arrangement of "Toad's Turnpike," simply titled "highway." This arrangement mixes funk instrumentation with sound effects and character voice clips from the original game.
