- “This is a tough stage, so it's important that you want to keep on trying, even if you slip up. To achieve this, we came up with an upbeat, infectious theme. You can't help but be carried along by the rhythm. The drummer plays with brushes, which gives the performance a lot of expressive power. We used this effect to create a theme that makes it fun to keep playing.”
- —Liner notes in the Super Mario 3D World Original Soundtrack
"Chainlink Charge"[1] is a musical theme composed by Koji Kondo for Super Mario 3D World, where it plays in the levels Chain-Link Charge, Switchboard Falls, Cakewalk Flip, Cookie Cogworks, and Rolling Ride Run. This theme was recorded with live instruments.

Super Mario series[edit]
Super Mario 3D World[edit]
In Super Mario 3D World, a tropical arrangement of "Chainlink Charge" plays in Pipeline Lagoon, Sunshine Seaside, and Pipeline Boom Lagoon. The unlooped version of the arrangement is in C major and modulates to D-flat major. When the player is underwater, a more relaxed arrangement plays instead. In the game's official soundtrack, both versions are played in sequence on the same track, titled "Sunshine Seaside." The above-ground version returns in Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition, where it plays in underwater levels. The underwater version returns in Super Mario Maker 2, where it plays during underwater-themed levels in the Super Mario 3D World style.
