"Underwater BGM"[1] is a musical theme composed by Koji Kondo for Super Mario World, where it plays in the underwater levels. It is a slow-paced waltz arrangement of "Ground BGM" from the same game in the key of F major. The rhythm of the melody is altered to fit the triple meter time of the piece.

Super Mario World[edit]

Additional bongo percussion is added to the instrumentation whenever the player is riding a Yoshi. This remix is titled "Yoshi Underwater BGM" in the Nintendo Music app.
Both "Underwater BGM" and "Yoshi Underwater BGM" return for the same purposes in the port of the game included in Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World.
"Underwater BGM" is also included in the official albums Super Mario World and The 30th Anniversary Super Mario Bros. Music. In the Super Mario World album, the bongos from "Yoshi Underwater BGM" are added to the instrumentation for the second half of the theme.
