History[edit]

Mario Kart series[edit]

Mario Kart Wii[edit]

Mario Kart Wii marks the first appearance of "Wario's Gold Mine." A techno arrangement of the theme plays during the underground section. In the official Mario Kart Wii Platinum Soundtrack album, both the original version and the underground arrangement are played in sequence on the same track, titled 「ワリオこうざん」 (Wario Kōzan, "Wario Mine").

Mario Kart 8[edit]

“For the Wii version, we used a different arrangement when you're down in the mines. This time around, we added the voices of the Shy Guys. After all, they're really hard workers, so they turn up in all kinds of places.”
Liner notes in the Mario Kart 8 Original Soundtrack

In Mario Kart 8 and the Nintendo Switch port, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, as part of The Legend of Zelda × Mario Kart 8 DLC, an arrangement of "Wario's Gold Mine" plays in Wii Wario's Gold Mine. It is likewise titled "Wii Wario's Gold Mine" in the Nintendo Music app and the official Mario Kart 8 Original Soundtrack album. A looping drum set beat is added to the instrumentation whenever the player is driving at top speed while in first place. The underground version from Mario Kart Wii has been removed, with the full arrangement instead playing throughout the entire course. Shy Guys can also be heard singing to the theme when entering the mine.
