Mario Kart 8[edit]
- “Compared to this course's Mario Kart 7 incarnation, the amount of water flowing up and the size of the pipes have really been scaled up, and so even though it retains the 8-bit atmosphere, it's become a really dramatic course. We wanted to reflect this in the background music by making it more sweeping in scale and arranging it more dynamically.”
- —Liner notes in the Mario Kart 8 Original Soundtrack
In Mario Kart 8 and the Nintendo Switch port, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, an arrangement of "Piranha Plant Slide" arranged by Ryo Nagamatsu plays in 3DS Piranha Plant Slide. It is titled "3DS Piranha Plant Slide" or "3DS Piranha Plant Pipeway" in the Nintendo Music app, depending on region; the latter name, which is the course's European name, is used in the official Mario Kart 8 Original Soundtrack album, as it was only released in Europe, Japan, and Australia. A looping drum set beat is added to the instrumentation whenever the player is driving at top speed while in first place. The underwater version heard in Mario Kart 7 has been removed, with the full arrangement instead playing throughout the entire course.
